  • @nataliek If only! My colleague, APD Dr Scott Teasdale (whom we will meet in week 3) led research showing that early interventions delivered as part of standard care attenuated antipsychotic-induced weight gain in young people (see link below to the study).
I hope all our advocacy work will eventually lead to APDs been included in every mental health care...

  • @nataliek Great to know, thanks Natalie!

  • @nataliek @JimKantidakis @AshaJuniper
Hi everyone. Nutri-Psyche is a premium course, as such you have what FeatureLearn calls "long-term" access to the course. This means that essentially, you would be able to re-visit the course material 'indefinitely'. However, I am only monitoring each run of the course for a few weeks and might not be able to help you...

  • @AshaJuniper Hi Asha. It's up to you when to complete the test, depending on your timelines and study approach. I do apologise if this is a bit confusing, but as we have learners from all over the world, we are trying to tailor for everyone.

  • @BA Also, apologies if you've done this, but do you click on "Mark as complete" button on the bottom middle of the page?

  • @DrMicheleRogers Yes, you do have more than 3 weeks. Essentially, you do have an unlimited access to the course material. If you are to submit your CPD hours for the course to the RANZCP, you will need to do so in this calendar year.

  • @AshaJuniper there is a long and a short answer to your questions, Asha. As a dietitian, I do always think that food is better than supplements, but we do need to consider individual preferences and circumstances. Complains is usually greater with supplements, so there are some benefits in recommending these. Many people are also either not liking or not...

  • @AshaJuniper Yes, Miso soup sure is fermented food. However, if we cook it from a miso paste by adding boiling water, we need to consider the impact of high temperatures on any living microorganisms. There are some great recipes that use miso paste in salad dressings (like, tofu, miso and olive oil dressing when you just blend all ingredients together).

  • @AshaJuniper Indeed, I think FMT is one of the most promising approaches. Let's hope research will deliver some concrete evidence in the next few years.

  • @DrMicheleRogers Beautifully summed up, Michele!

  • @AshaJuniper Yes! As this is considered premium course, you will have an unlimited access to the resources.

  • Hi everyone. Great questions below.
    1. Please do not be overly concerned about the MCQs. These are developed to support your learning, and are not particularly challenging.
    2. You don't have to complete part 1 before undertaking the rest of the course.
    3. You do have any time until the end of the year to complete your assessments but this needs to be...

  • @nataliek Hi Natalie. In my understanding you need to complete each part of the MCQ in one go, however, FutureLearn IT support (pink button at the right bottom of your screen) might be helpful to confirm.

  • @nataliek Hi Natalie! Great to have another dietitian on the course, welcome!

  • Hello everyone and a warm welcome to the course!

I am one of your lead educators and I am very much looking forward to the next few weeks of learning with you. A little bit about me: I am a senior researcher at the Food & Mood Centre, an educator, and a dietitian. I also lead the Food and Mood Academy - an educational centre focused on translating research...

  • @BA Hi BA, thanks for letting me know. I have never encountered this before... My first recommendation is to refer to the FutureLearn Support (pink button in the bottom right corner of your screen), as this sounds like a possible system issue. I will, however, look at this from my side. I'll get back to you.

  • @AshaJuniper Very important point, Asha.

  • @BA @AshaJuniper Thanks both. This should now be fixed.

  • @RhonaCurnier thanks for the feedback, Rhona!

So far, we have a true multidisciplinary team here - how wonderful!

  • @CharlotteCatignani Great points, Charlotte!

  • @AlexHardy Although I am biased as well, Alex, research evidence also show us that interventions developed and delivered by dietitians or other accredited nutrition professional are most effective.

  • @BA Good point here, BA :)
Re: resources, we have a few specially selected in step 3.9. Please let us know what you think about these!

  • Excellent point here, dear learner!

  • @LucasCarter Very interesting points here, Lucas. Thanks for sharing! I think I do understand what you mean by 'toxic' when it comes to positivity. It is a real skill (or maybe a gift??) to be authentically positive.
I wonder what others are thinking about these concepts?

  • @ReshmaKeswani All the best with your study, Reshma!

  • @TeresaLawrence Very important point, Teresa! I wonder what others are think about 'masking' mental health issues? Could it be viewed as coping strategy?

  • @JaneCooper I appreciate your enthusiasm, Jane!

  • Spot on, Tatiana! @TatianaDimov

  • @KhushbooKansal Hi Khushboo. Not a problem at all. You do have unlimited access to the course material, but if you wish to apply for your 20 hours CPD from the RANZCP, you need to pass the test this calendar year. I hope this clarifies it for you. Let me know if you have any other questions. Tetyana

  • Hi everyone. As some of you noted, dietary assessment tools serve diverse purposes and might be useful, particularly when we are trying to broaden our food horizons (aka eating with more variety).

Going through a checklist may help to tick off essentials (for example, veggies or water).

As long as we don’t get too preoccupied and keep it applicable to...

  • Hi everybody.

Informative conversation about guidelines, thank you. I enjoyed reading recommendations from different countries, and do agree that many of these are quite similar and based around consumption of a variety of foods, particularly plant foods, such as vegetables, grain, fruit…

Good to keep in mind that dietary guidelines are just guides that...

  • Great reflection, Katrina @KatrinaMurrell

  • Hello everybody! What a great discussion we are having about definition of mental health. Clearly, mental health and mental unhealth does mean very different things for different people.

It is interesting how many of us appreciate the fluidity of different mental health states. Unpacking different components that attribute to mental health really...
